Chris Cornell’s Death Ruled As Suicide

The death of Soundgarden, Audioslave and Temple Of The Dog frontman Chris Cornell has been ruled as suicide by hanging by a medical examiner.

The Associated Press reports that the examiner found Cornell had hung himself on Wednesday night in a Detroit hotel room. He was 52.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office says it has completed a preliminary autopsy on Cornell, but “a full autopsy report has not yet been completed”.

A police spokesman has also reportedly said that Cornell was found by a family friend, and had a band around his neck.

Cornell had performed with Soundgarden in Detroit just hours before his death, and the last song he performed contained eerie references to death.

Ben Weinman of The Dillinger Escape Plan, who have been supporting Soundgarden at their most recent shows, has told CLRVYNT that Cornell was quiet during his last days.

“Even though Dillinger Escape Plan did a bunch of dates with Soundgarden, he didn’t really talk to anyone,” Weinman says.

“The rest of the guys would hang out before the show and all of that, but he would fly into the show and go back to the hotel. On the last tour that we were on together, he was sort of very quiet.”

Tributes to Cornell have been pouring in from around the music and entertainment industries, as fans continue to grieve.

Cornell is survived by his wife Vicky Cornell and three children, aged between 16 and 11.

UPDATE 03/06/17: The toxicology report revealed there were multiple prescription drugs in Chris Cornell’s system.
