Courtney Barnett & Kurt Vile Announce Collab Album ‘Lotta Sea Lice’

UPDATE: Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile have now released their debut collaborative single ‘Over Everything’.

ORIGINAL STORY: Musical BFFs Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile have finally announced the deets of their new collaborative album.

Dubbed Lotta Sea Lice, the disc is set to land in October and will feature original songs with names like ‘Over Everything’ and ‘Continental Breakfast’ plus a handful of covers, including a rendition of Belly’s ‘Untogether’, Jen Cloher’s ‘Fear Is Like a Forest’, and a Barnett-only version of Vile’s ‘Peeping Tomboy’ #cay-ute

“The vibes were strong,” Vile tells Rolling Stone of the recording process. “We discovered we could finish things on the quick, like an outlaw country singer, or Neil Young.”

C-Barn adds: “We were mucking around, eating pizza, and we had all these songs all of a sudden.”

ICYMI: the pair are taking their new tunes on the road around the US with their allstar backing band The Sea Lice, which boasts a stellar lineup including Stella Mozgawa (Warpaint), Janet Weiss (Sleater-Kinney, Wild Flag), Rob Laakso (The Violators, The Swirlies, Mice Parade) and Katie Harkin (Sky Larkin, touring member of Sleater-Kinney and Wild Beasts).

No Aussie dates to speak of yet but we can dream.

Kurt Vile’s most recent solo LP was 2015’s b’lieve i’m goin down, while Barnett dropped her groundbreaking Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit in the same year.

According to Rolling Stone, both musos have since returned to start work on their respective upcoming solo LPs, neither of which has a release date yet.

Although Jen Cloher has revealed that her bae Barnett’s newbie will “definitely” be out in 2018.
