It’s been a long two years since Long Beach, California’s finest, Crystal Antlers, put out their debut LP Tentacles, and what an intensely good listen that was.
Now the band have announced the follow-up, with TheLineOfBestFit reporting on Two Way Mirror, the band’s second album that is set for release on July 11 through Recreation Ltd.
Tentacles, (the last album to ever come out on the iconic Touch and Go Records), along with their outstanding self-titled 2008 EP, was a sprawling landscape of dirge-blues, MC5-style garage rock and a weird kind of apocalyptic psychedelia. Two Way Mirror, we quote, “promises to incorporate elements of avant-garde pop, surf rock and folk into the band’s well-established garage punk/rock experimentations.”
In addition, the band are offering a free download of a new track, Summer Solstice. which definitely has a more hazy and melodic vibe than their more raucous previous work.
Crystal Antlers emerged in a blaze of justified scenester hype in 2008 on the back of their first EP, although they may have bypassed a few Australian fans. The band are playing a few US dates in June, with a European jaunt a likely plan after that.
Here is what is probably their best track released so far, Parting Song For The Torn Sky, from that limited edition EP:
