Good morning everyone! I’m sure you’ve all had a pleasant start to the day, but to bring you back down to earth we have our quote of the day. Today’s comes from Crystal Castles’ frontwoman Alice Glass, who verbally destroyed the likes of Katy Perry and the ever-growing ‘teen slut’ pandemic that has begun to sweep the world.
I’m sure many of you have noticed, that the older we get, the shorter the skirts of young teenage girls get, which is fine if you want to spend a solid 10-25 behind bars, but for the remainder of us, it’s just wrong. However, finally, someone (who isn’t a politician or religious identity, and who people actually respect) has taken a stand against the tartiness of the ‘tumblr generation’, or ‘iGen’ as the tabloids have taken to calling them. The Big Day Out regular essentially held today’s pop icons to blame, and I’m glad someone finally did it. Without interrupting the quote in all its true awesomeness, it awaits below in its full, true form – via NME.
We need an army because the mainstream hates women… A lot of kids are more sexualised now than they were years ago and I’m not sure it’s a coincidence… Like fucking Katy Perry spraying people with her fucking dick, her fucking cum gun coming on fucking children. And little girls, like six-year-old girls wearing a shirt with ‘I wanna see your [pea] cock’ on it… Don’t prey on vulnerable people like that. Don’t encourage little girls to get dressed up, to have cupcakes on their tits to get people to lick them off, ’cause that’s what you’re insinuating.
You go girl! Without getting into the whole sexism debate that the country seems to be focused on, it’s about time that someone was held responsible for this shit. Earlier this year, a similar stance was taken by Lupe Fiasco, who released his thought-provoking single Bad Bitch, which addressed the impact of today’s pop-culture on the lives of kids. I’m no expert, but having just escaped my teenage years, I can assure you all that this is a pressing issue. I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe…
Aside from that, I’m sure that Alice will be receiving a lot more respect from the general public, which is fantastic timing seeing as Crystal Castles’ highly anticipated third album III (appropriately titled if you ask me) is about to be released. After her infamous performances in the 2011 Boiler Room, equipped with a microphone and set of crutches to aid her broken leg, she blew the roof off the festival, and I’m sure everyone is expecting a similar performance come 2013.
We eagerly await Katy Perry’s response.
