UPDATE: Cub Sport Bandmates Tim Nelson & Sam Netterfield Are Now Married
ORIGINAL STORY: In some news that’s likely to brighten your weekend, Tim Nelson and Sam Netterfield of Brisbane band Cub Sport have announced that they’re engaged.
Nelson, the frontman, and Netterfield, the keyboardist, announced the news on social media today writing, “WE’VE GOT SOME EXCITING NEWS!!!”
“Hey Malcolm Turnbull we’ve got a wedding to plan – how about we hurry up and legalise it?!”
The engagement comes just weeks after the band dropped their powerful new single O Lord and Nelson and Netterfield made their relationship public.
At the time Nelson told triple j, “Sam and I came out in the middle of last year and we got together.”
“It went really well. Our families and everyone were amazing, it was weird because it was the start of the happiest I’ve ever been. Being able to be my true self, being with the love of my life, having all my family and friends loving me for me.”
In the past the band have called out people for leaving “awful” and homophobic comments on their Facebook, warning about the danger of using, “slurs”.
“It’s 2017, it’s not cool to call things ‘retarded’ or ‘gay’,” the band wrote on Facebook.
“To anybody who has been hurt by commenters on our post – sorry you’ve encountered this on our page,” Nelson elaborated in a statement.
“Remember that there are countless people who love you for who you are and you deserve nothing less than absolute respect. There’s a long way to go, but we will not stop.”
Today, both Nelson and Netterfield have received huge amounts of support on social media with many of their fans as overjoyed as they are.
