Cymbal Mastermind Robert Zildjian Dies At 89

There’s nothing in the world quite like the sound of live drums. And 90% of that awesomeness (in most cases) is due to the hard work and pure genius of the now departed Robert Zildjian, founder of Sabian Cymbals. The company announced the news of the passing via their official website.

Zildjian, whose name can be seen probably around 400 times if you walk into any music instrument shop, founded Sabian Cymbals back in 1981 after a legal battle with his brother over who would retain the family business, Avedis Zildjian Co., which also specialised in high quality cymbals manufacturing. The family company was founded back in 1928, so it’s safe to say the Zildjian’s were masters of their trade.

RZ, as he was referred to, passed away on Thursday. The company hasn’t confirmed details of his passing, but I suppose that’s unimportant.

Thanks for all the amazing cymbals, RZ!
