Damien Jurado Brisbane Festival Sideshows

Washington native and indie rocker Damien Jurado has been stunning all that come across his psychedelic folk and spellbinding narratives since the mid-90’s when he self-released dusty lo-fi records on his own cassette-only label. Now for the first time in his career he will embark on a new frontier, touring Australia’s east coast this September.

Innovative and eclectic, Damien Jurado has often turned to unsual sounds and field recordings for inspiration. 2000’s Postcards And Audio Lettersm, for example, was stitched together from op shop tape players and old answering machines. Fleet FoxesRobin Pecknold and J Tillman as well as City And Colour‘s Dallas Green have all cited Damien Jurado as an influence.

For his last few offerings Jurado has teamed up with recording artist, producer and touring bassist for The Black Keys, Richard Swift (The Shins, Foxygen). His eleventh studio album Brothers And Sisters Of The Eternal Son is the third piece in a Swift-produced trilogy, swimming with sci-fi and spiritual imagery.

According to Jurado himself, that the album is “about a guy who disappears on a search, if you will, for himself and never goes home”. The natural born storyteller will bring his inimitable folk stylings to our shores on his inaugural Australian visit, hitting up Melbourne and Sydney before heading north to play in the exquisite surrounds of The Spiegeltent as part of Brisbane Festival.

UPDATE 21/08/14: Due to an injury, Damien Jurado has cancelled his upcoming Australian tour, including his Brisbane festival performance. Ticket refunds are available at the point of purchase.
