Das Racist have called it quits, and although the news is brand new information to most of us, the hip hop group apparently broke up two months ago. As reported by Pitchfork, Das Racist was booked to play On3 Festival. However, instead of getting both Heems and Kool A.D., only Heems showed up and proceeded to perform solo.
While onstage before the German crowd, Heems, real name Himanshu Suri, informed those in attendance that Das Racist was no more. “You guys wanna know the secret? Alright, so I’m going to do some Das Racist songs, but Das Racist is breaking up and we’re not a band anymore,” Heems told the On3 Festival audience.
Heems offered no further explanation as to why the split occurred but this morning at just pass 11:00am, Kool A.D., real name Victor Vazquez, tweeted that he actually left Das Racist two months ago.
“for the record i quit das racist 2 months ago and was asked by our manager not to announce it yet. apparently @HIMANSHU wanted to do it tho.” – Kool A.D. tweeted.
When asked by fans what led to Kool A.D.’s departure, the MC noted it was due to ‘personal reasons’. Heem cheekily replied that he had no recollection of wanting to announce the band’s break-up.
