Death Metal Band To Play In Sealed, Soundproof Box Until Oxygen Runs Out

UK death metal band, Unfathomable Ruination, will be performing in an airtight, soundproofed box in London this week until they run out of oxygen. The performance will be part of an art installation by Portuguese artist João Onofre fittingly called Box Sized DIE.

According to the installation’s description, “the box is soundproofed, determining and restricting the performance’s duration to the length of time in which the oxygen is expended.” The audience outside the cube will be able to “observe its strange vibrations” but will only be able to see the band’s entrance and exit to the performance space.

Box Sized DIE has already toured extensively through Europe at venues including Palais de Tokyo in Paris and Barcelona’s Museum of Contemporary Art. In each location the sculpture travels to, Onofre invites a local Death Metal band to play. Unfathomable Ruination will perform from 3rd July – 1st August at 6pm Wednesday to Friday.

According to the Independent, Unfathomable Ruination will play tracks from their album Misshapen Congenital Entropy, including tracks like Edges of Disfigured Atrocity and Futile Colossus Decapitated. Though without actually being inside the box it will prove difficult to verify their final set list.

“According to the medical professionals who read the Independent, we’re all going to die… Challenge Accepted,” wrote the band on their Facebook page.
