Del The Funky Homosapien announces Australian tour

Following on from the release of his latest critically acclaimed album Golden Era, which has seen him return to form, underground hip-hop legend Del The Funky Homosapien is set to return to Australia for the first time in years this July. Cutting his teeth as part of his cousin Ice-Cube‘s backing band, Del has earned himself cult status amongst hip hop heads through his intricate and often humorous lyricism as well as his impeccable, at times confounding flow.

His first two solo albums, I Wish my Brother George Was Here (1991) and No Need For Alarm (1993) received both critical acclaim and commercial success, the albums selling hundreds of thousands of copies worldwide, Del touring incessantly in support of them. Going on to work with his own crew, Hieroglyphics, Del released swathes of material through the 90s, including the now legendary Deltron 3030 album with Dan The Automator and Kid Koala, as well as the first Gorrilaz album which saw the Deltron team augmented by Blur‘s Damon Albarn, Tom Tom Club‘s Tina Weymouth and The Buena Vista Social Club‘s Ibrahim Ferrer.

Having gone through a bit of a rough patch in the last five years or so, his output not really living up to the standard he set for himself in the early 90s, 2011 sees Del back at the top of his game, his latest offering Golden Era seeing him return to his well proven formula of funky beats, intelligent lyrics and impressive flow. The new material leaving the rapper rejuvenated, Del has decided to set out on a massive tour, visiting our shores here for the first time since the early 00’s. With fellow Bay Area MC Bukue One along for the ride, this is sure to be a highlight in an already amazing year of hip hop in Australia.
