Dillinger Escape Plan’s Ben Weinman Was Told He May Never Play Again

The Dillinger Escape Plan have released Hero of the Soviet Union from their current opus One Of Us Is The Killer as a live video clip, an apt choice given the fact that guitarist Ben Weinman came close to never again experiencing the thrills of performing live.

If you’re a fan of the slower, more melodic and structured Dillinger Escape Plan jams then you should probably look elsewhere. Hero of the Soviet Union is about as frantic and hard as Dillinger get. The clip for Soviet Union was pieced together with footage from the band’s recent run of headlining dates with The Faceless and Royal Thunder.

Dillinger will be following the One Of Us… album cycle full-steam a head in no time now that guitarist Ben Weinman is on the mend. The axe-man broke his wrist recently and, for a moment there, things were looking real grim:

“When the doctor told me I broke my wrist and that this particular bone doesn’t typically heal, my heart sunk. Our record had just come out and we were just getting started with its promotional cycle. I would not let this stop me.”

Obviously with a lot on the line, Weinman began the stressful hunt for specialist doctors, eventually finding one who would play ball:

“I told him I had to play guitar again in a month. He said, ‘Ok, I’ll put a screw in your wrist.’ Two weeks after surgery they took my stitches and cast off and I started playing guitar again. Definitely not the most pleasant experience, but now I almost feel back to myself.”

There will still be some rehab work required before Weinman can belt out his unique mathcore riffage, but he’s expected to be good to go for the Summer Slaughter US tour later this month. Fingers crossed this won’t impact his work with Kimbra.
