Dirty Beaches Announce Australian Tour, Feb 2013

One man band Alex Zhang Hungtai or as he’s known biblically, Dirty Beaches, is heading our way for a couple of shows in February 2013. With a croon that brings back memories of some of 50s most celebrated performers, tempered over a sound that feels classic and yet is fashioned via modern equipment with a lo-fi philosophy, Dirty Beaches music envelopes’ you in a time wrap where retro clothing optional but not necessary.

Having released his debut album Badlands last year, Dirty Beaches received praise from of the most critical corners of the music world, with Pitchfork awarding the LP a score of 8.2; championing the record for it’s uniqueness and describing Badlands as, “a refreshing take on the well-worn tropes of lo-fi– raunchy, old-fashioned, and pompadoured, there’s nothing else that sounds like this right now.”

With an old school groove Dirty Beaches brings the type of tunes that go great with a big fat joint (not that Music Feeds encourages drug use – we simply don’t discourage it). The two date headlining tour sees Dirty Beaches take The Totes in Melbourne on February 10 before performing at FBi Social the next night. So if you’re in the mood for something new and something old all rolled into one be sure to head along to Dirty Beaches.
