NME have reported this evening that rap icon and production mastermind Dr. Dre has signed a deal with the FX network in the States to begin work on a crime drama with a bit of a twist.
Now, when I say twist, I mean as much of a twist as Network executives are willing to take. The program, which remains unnamed, will be set in the illustrious world of the music biz in LA and the underworld that is closely connected. Dre will be producing the series, alongside co-producer Sidney Quashie, who will be writing the show. It all sounds very legit, though I can’t get the image out of my head of Simpsons-looking execs sitting around a table trying to cash in on the music wave.
Reports state that work has begun on the hour-long pilot, and the show will be joining network buddy The Walking Dead, which I’m sure received the same response before it hit the screen.
This would mean Dre is burning the candles at both ends, as he is currently still in the studio working on his soon-to-be-released album Detox; you can check out the clip to the first single – I Need a Doctor, featuring Eminem.
