Eminem Releases ‘Rap God’ Music Video

Eminem has unveiled the highly anticipated video for his single Rap God, in which Slim Shady takes on a glitchy, Max Headroom-like persona, with the Rich Lee-directed clip littered with references to the 80s and 90s, video games Portal, Pong, and Super Mario, Hellraiser, and hip-hop history.

The clip was directed by filmmaker Lee, who previously worked with Eminem on his clip for Not Afraid, from 2010’s Recovery, Lighters, a single from his collaboration with Royce da 5’9″, Bad Meets Evil, and is the director of Eminem’s upcoming clip for The Monster, featuring Rihanna.

In between clips of Busta Rhymes, Lakim Shabazz, Run D.M.C., Tupac, and N.W.A., as well as Bill Clinton and NASCAR, viewers can also see a nod to Eminem’s battle rap past, with scenes of a hooded Slim Shady holding court in a battle rap circle, filmed in the style of his 2002 film, 8 Mile.
