FIDLAR – “Vampire Weekend Were Total Dicks To Us”

LA skater punk outfit FIDLAR have taken a swing at East Coast enemies Vampire Weekend, labelling the indie act as ‘dicks’ during an interview at SXSW 2013.

Speaking with Consequence Of Sound’s Rock It Out Blog, FIDLAR used the platform to air their gripe with Vampire Weekend, which traces back to Japan. As the band explains, the bad blood began to boil after FIDLAR outperformed Vampire Weekend on the decks in Japan, causing the New York band to cast some undesirable greasies in FIDLAR’s direction.

“They gave us some bad looks one time and we haven’t forgave them for that,” begins drummer Max Kuehn.

“We played a festival in Japan and those guys [Vampire Weekend] were just total dicks to us,” elaborates singer Zac Carper.

“We were DJing in one room and they were DJing in another room and they were just playing the worst music ever,” Max explains. “And everyone was in our room just jamming out… And they had this totally dead room where they were just playing electronic music and kept giving us the stink-eye.”

“And they also suck as a band too. They’re just really bad. I don’t like them at all,” he concludes.

After the tongue-lashing, FIDLAR reveal they are actually putting out a split 7″ with Vampire Weekend, and supporting the band on a world tour, playing the whole beef off as a joke. Split EP there may be, but that doesn’t mean they have to like each other.

Vampire Weekend officially released two new songs earlier this week, Step and Diane Young, which will both appear on upcoming album Modern Vampires Of The City, due out in May.

FIDLAR will be touring Australia with Wavves some time this year – dates and venues are yet to be announced.
