First Act Announced For 2017 Dark Mofo Lineup

Tasmania’s annual Dark Mofo festival has unveiled the first act for its 2017 iteration, and it’s none other than Norwegian black metal pioneers Ulver.

The experimental Kristoffer Rygg-led group will perform exclusively at Dark Mofo on their upcoming trip down under, with a show scheduled for Thursday, 15th June at Hobart’s Odeon Theatre.

“Dark Mofo is one strange beast of a festival, and they have really pulled out all the big guns to make it possible to drag a pack of Vikings quite literally to the other side of the world in June,” says Rygg.

“We have heard exceptional tales about this midwinter celebration. Considering the overall aesthetic of the festival and the type of art and acts it has featured before, this will be a trip extraordinaire and no doubt a once in a lifetime experience for Ulver.”

Ulver will release their latest album The Assassination of Julius Caesar this April, and will be the band’s 13th studio album.

Last year’s Dark Mofo lineup featured the likes of Savages, ZHU and Chelsea Wolfe. The festival’s full 2017 lineup will be announced on Friday, 7th April.

Dark Mofo announced its 2017 dates and a new round of Government funding in July last year.
