Here Are The First Bunch Of Aussie Acts Heading To SXSW IN 2017

Austin Texas’ South By Southwest has announced the first 50 acts who’ll perform at the conference in 2017 – and of those, nine Aussies have already secured spots.

Aussie representation at the conference; which celebrates all things creative – has been steadily growing over the 30 year history of the event and in 2016 over 40 Aussie acts featured.

The first lineup announcement features triple j unearthed star Alex Lahey who’s had a breakthrough year; having featured at Splendour In The Grass, and who is just about to play at Brisbane’s BIGSOUND 2016. She’ll join Brisbane-based singer-songwriter Wafia, as well as Vera Blue, Oscar Key Sung, Alex Cameron, Polarheart, Running Touch, Demi Louise and Throttle.

“From 2002, where only five homegrown bands were invited to play, to 2016’s 30th year where over 40 showcased, Australia has created a powerful and unique brand at SXSW,” said SXSW Australian representative Phil Tripp in a statement to themusic.

“These nine bands represent just the initial force of an Aussie Army that will hit the shores of the US from March 14-19 with bands from over 60 countries duking it out at the crash barriers of the ‘Live Music Capital Of The World’.”
