Flaming Lips’ Second Cassette Demo Surfaces Online

A cassette recording that served as the second demo for freak-rock legends The Flaming Lips has surfaced online. The tape was originally recorded in 1983 and was remastered by current Lips drummer Kliph Scurlock and sold as a 7″ blue vinyl by frontman Wayne Coyne on their recent tour.

The record store tour recently undertaken by the band included other bizarre merchandise such as the now famous reissue of the Lips’ 1984 debut EP, which came topped with a chocolate skull. This demo, which readers can check out below, was another special treasure, now archived online.

30 years ago the band still featured Coyne’s brother, Mark, and was said to be in the midst of a “transition from its primitive shambolic drug-damaged punk-pop to the primitive shambolic drug-damaged hallucinogenic cosmic brother death rock heard on the first EP.”
