Flume’s Detailed His Insane ‘Skin’ Collaborations With Beck, Little Dragon, Vic Mensa And More

We’re edging ever closer to the release of Flume‘s second album Skin this Friday but for now he’s giving away little nuggets of information, talking about some of Skin‘s collaborators.

Flume’s first album only featured a handful of collaborations including Chet Faker and George Maple but this time around he’s recruited Beck, Little Dragon, Vic Mensa, Tove Lo, Vince Staples, AlunaGeorge and more.

Beck’s one of his biggest collaborators to date and he features on the albums final track Tiny Cities, a song conceived at Beck’s house in LA.

“It was a total head-spin. I went over to his house in L.A. and we hung out,” Flume said speaking to triple j who are previewing the album all week as the feature album.

“I was playing him ideas and he was singing stuff and it was just totally surreal…”

The Grammy Award winner was apparently “lovely, really cool,” just incase you were wondering.

Flume further said that he doesn’t usually produce a beat with a singer in mind, choosing rather to hit up artists that he’s a huge fan of and let the song unfurl naturally.

“That’s the way I like to write,” he said.

“Once I’ve got [the ideas] fleshed out a bit — I’ll take them to collaborators and be like ‘hey, what do you think?” and then together we’ll build it up from there.”

One act he’s a massive fan of that appear on the album are Swedish group Little Dragon who appear on Take A Chance. He said he’s, “always wanted to do something with them,” and described the opportunity as “awesome”.

Vic Mensa is another international guest that appears on the album with a song that was cooked up while Mensa was here for Laneway Festival in 2015.

“We hit each other up and got in the studio,” Flume said.

“For this track [‘Lose It‘] he was like ‘This is the one, I’d love to get on this’ and I was like ‘f**k yeah, this is the one I wanted you on’!”

Flume has teased a few tracks on his Twitter today and one of those track is Lose It which Flume originally called Electro Whale Symphony because the start of the song sounds like whale calls.

There’s only one fellow Australian that appears on Skin and that is KUČKA who has appeared on A$AP Rocky tracks in the past. KUČKA “sounds like a crazy alien babe from space,” according to Flume and he used those sounds on the previously released Smoke & Retribution and Numb & Getting Colder which he’s also teased on his Twitter today.

Flume has promised that he’s going to share all of the tracks from Skin before they’re officially released on Friday. triple j are also previewing the album all week.
