Frank Zappa To Tour Again… As A Hologram

Frank Zappa is the latest music legend set to be resurrected to tour the world as a hologram.

Following in the footsteps of other deceased icons like Ronnie James Dio (whose hologram is set to tour Australia soonMichael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Biggie Smalls, Tupac and of course Harambe, Zappa — who died of cancer more than a decade ago — will be brought back to life to perform as a 3D audio-visual projection, using the power of science.

According to a press statement, the Zappa Family Trust has linked up with production company EyeIlusion for the project, which will see the Zappa tour alongside some of his past bandmates, including Steve Vai, Adrian Belew, Ian Underwood, and Arthur Barrow, as well as some members of his famous fam.

When I spoke with them, they were excited at the prospect of performing alongside Frank once again and can’t wait to give fans an unforgettable experience,” says Ahmet Zappa, co-Trustee of the Zappa Family Trust.

“Also, how radical would it be to have Moon singing ‘Valley Girl’ onstage with Frank? Or to see Dweezil side by side with our father playing duelling guitar solos? That would be my greatest wish and I look forward to bringing this special celebration of Frank’s legacy to a town near you.”

Fellow Zappa co-Trustee Diva adds, “Frank was an innovator and his art transcended so many different mediums. He left behind such an extensive body of work and we want to celebrate his music with really creative and unique live hologram productions that will introduce his music to a new generation of fans and let so many that enjoyed his music when he was alive experience it again.

“We have had this idea for many years and after meeting with the team at Eyellusion, we knew that they were the right partner to make it a reality.”

Setlist-wise, we can expect to hear Zappa’s “most well-known music as well as some rare and unheard material” during the forthcoming shows.

Production for Frank Zappa – Back On The Road: The Hologram Tour is reportedly set to kick-off later this year, with further announcements to come in 2018. Fingers crossed for Australia we guess?

Speaking of holograms and Australia, did you know that the still-living ABBA are planning to tour Australia in 2019 as holograms for some reason?

What a time to be alive.
