Guns N’ Roses Confirm A New Album Is In The Works

Guns N’ Roses‘ resident non-Slash axeman Richard Fortus has confirmed that the band are planning on recording a brand new album with the current lineup, which would make it the first record of new material to feature OG members Slash, Duff and Axl Rose since 1991’s Use Your Illusion double LP.

Speaking with podcast StageLeft (via Alternative Nation), the string slinger confirmed that the current lineup has “been recording a lot of stuff, just ideas, assembling ideas, but not going into a studio and actually tracking a new record” just yet.

But he also added that a new LP was the eventual plan.

“It’s sort of too good not to happen at this point, that’s how I feel about it,” he said. “This band is really a force right now, and I definitely hope that we do, and I think we’re all sort of counting on it, and we’re also planning on it.”

It comes after a source close to the band told Music Feeds that Fortus, Axl Rose, Slash, Duff, drummer Frank Ferrer and keyboardists Melissa Reese and Dizzy Reed have been busy writing new material together while on the road.

It also follows the band telling Aussie fans in no uncertain terms that “they’ll be back” to tour the country again following their monster Not In This Lifetime stadium stint earlier this year, and Slash’s mysterious teasing that “there’s more to come”.

Needless to say, the pressure on any new GnFnR record will be astronomical, what with Appetite For Destruction and the Use Your Illusions to try to measure up to.

Let’s just hope that — unlike the band’s last Slash and Duff-less album Chinese Democracy — it doesn’t take 13 years to come out.

Like the band’s big reunion, some point in this lifetime would be nice.

All we need is… well, you know.
