GWAR, Amon Amarth, Satyricon, The Black Dahlia Murder Sidewaves Announced

Soundwave 2014 orangisers have been doing a fine job of wrangling heavy lineups for their Sidewave tours, but their latest is impossible to surpass in sheer brutality, with Sydney and Melbourne shows planned for GWAR, Amon Amarth, Satyricon, and The Black Dahlia Murder.

Anyone looking to experience a GWAR live show would be well advised to come prepared with a set of clothes they don’t mind throwing away afterwards, lest they have their favourite outfit ruined by the precious bodily fluids of this puny universe’s mighty gods of gore and heavy metal.

During their 30-year stay on our pathetic excuse for a planet, GWAR have unveiled some of the gnarliest and most gutspewingly funny thrash metal this side of a latex factory, their most recent epic being last year’s Battle Maximus, which received high acclaim from fans and critics alike.

From the land of the midnight sun, Amon Amarth are to melodic death metal what a legion of orcs are to an idyllic village. Infusing their pounding riffs with virtuosic technical flourishes and tales sourced from Norse mythology and the Middle Earth canon, they are gods in their own right.

Forming in 1991 in the world’s premiere black metal hub, Norway, and lead by the mighty Satyr and Frost, Satyricon went on to create some of the genre’s most uncompromising and thought-provoking albums, consistently pushing the often rigid and narrow expectations of black metal.

The Black Dahlia Murder have earned a reputation as not only one of the hardest-working bands in heavy metal today, but as the proprietors of one of its most brutal live shows, combining the iconic Gothenburg style with unrelenting deathcore elements for a must-see live experience.

The GWAR, Amon Amarth, Satyricon, The Black Dahlia Murder Sidewaves will kick off with a Licensed All Ages show on Wednesday, 26th February at the Factory Theatre in Sydney, before departing for 170 Russell (formerly Billboard) in Melbourne for the next evening’s an 18+ show.
