Gwar Guitarist Cory Smoot Cause Of Death Confirmed

Cory Smoot, aka. Flattus Maximus, the lead guitarist for satirical heavy metal band Gwar has now been given an official cause of death after a statement was released by his family yesterday. His cause of death has now been given as a “coronary artery thrombosis brought about by his pre-existing coronary artery disease”.

Smoot was found dead last month on the band’s tour bus just moments before they were due to cross the US border to play shows in Canada. The cause of death at the time was not suspicious.

Statement from North Dakota coroner William Masselo, MD:

“We have finalized the autopsy report and death certificate. I have determined that Cory died from a coronary artery thrombosis brought about by his pre-existing coronary artery disease.”

The band have continued their tour schedule; according to Dave Brockie (Oderus Urungus) “He [Cory] would want us to go on and would be pissed if we didn’t”. The character of Flattus Maximus, is officially retired, and his family and bandmates have closure on what was such a sudden and tragic event. Metal Blade and GWAR have set up the Smoot Family Foundation to raise funds for Cory’s wife (Jaime), and their unborn child; donations can be sent here http://www.metalblade.com/smootfamilyfund/.
