Hear Marilyn Manson’s New Track ‘Cupid Carries a Gun’

Marilyn Manson has shared a new bluesy number titled Cupid Carries a Gun, another cut from his forthcoming ninth studio album The Pale Emperor. The album is due for release in Australia on Friday, 23rd January in time for Manson’s appearance at Soundwave Festival.

The song leaked online last year as a section of the track was used as the title music to US television series Salem. Similar to other tracks on The Pale Emperor, Manson co-wrote Cupid Carries a Gun with Tyler Bates, a film composer best known for his work on Guardians of the Galaxy, Halloween and TV shows like Californication.

“The occult and witchcraft [are] so often used in cinema with a heinous disregard for even researching its origins. However, I liked the themes of Salem,” Manson told The Hollywood Reporter last year of lending his track to the TV show. “It looks at the witch trials without being cliché like most modern films.”

Cupid Carries a Gun follows Manson’s previously released new songs Deep Six as well as Third Day Of A Seven Day Binge, which he performed live in London when he appeared on stage as a special guest at a Smashing Pumpkins concert.

Speaking to Rolling Stone Manson revealed many tracks on The Pale Emperor were recorded in one take. “It’s dirty,” said Manson, “like the dirt under my nails, like someone who has dug a grave.”

Marilyn Manson will perform at Soundwave Festival in February and March alongside Faith No More, Slipknot, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins and many more.
