Heavy Music Scene In Shock After Beloved Sydney Promoter Justin Nichol Passes Away

The Australian heavy music scene is in a state of shock after news broke that beloved Sydney promoter Justin Nichol passed away suddenly yesterday afternoon, 3rd November. The cause of death hasn’t been announced publicly.

Social media has been flooded with an outpouring of grief for the Zed Vegas Bookings founder, who earned himself a special place in the hearts of countless up-and-coming bands in local metal, punk and hardcore scenes, for whom he organised shows, tours, promotions and just generally helped to follow their dreams and navigate this crazy and intimidating thing we call the music industry.

“Justin loved his family, his friends and his work supporting the live music scene,” his Zed Vegas coworkers posted on Facebook. “We love and miss you Justin and hope you’re sinking some beers in the sky. Until we meet again.”

While the first band ever to be signed to Zed Vegas’s roster, Western Sydney metal act Drowning Atlantis, said:

“Words cannot explain how we all feel at the moment. Justin you were like a father to us all. You believed in us right from the word go, we were the first band you signed onto Zed Vegas and you stuck by us every step of the way. You took us on our first East Coast Tour, you taught us, laughed with us, drank with us, shared memories and thoughts with us…can’t believe you’re gone man. I wish we had a better photo together, but we were always having too much fun to take any.

Rest In Peace you beautiful bastard

we love you!”

The sheer magnitude of grief from everyone in the scene who ever worked with Justin is a testament to the huge and incredible impact that this beautiful soul left on all those whose lives he touched with his passion for local music.

RIP legend.
