Here’s When Gang Of Youths’ ‘MTV Unplugged Melbourne’ Set Will Hit TV

UPDATE: Watch Gang Of Youths Perform With Strings On ‘MTV Unplugged Melbourne’

ORIGINAL STORY: The long-awaited Australian debut of ‘MTV Unplugged’ was recorded in Melbourne last night, with Gang Of Youths performing a stripped-back set at The Meat Market’s Cobblestone Pavilion.

The performance — which will be broadcast on MTV at 6pm Sunday, 19th August — will be followed by a full audio and visual release, available for downloading and streaming.

Molly Meldrum was spotted in the audience for the set, which included versions of Go Farther In Lightness album cuts like ‘Let Me Down Easy’ and ‘The Deepest Sighs, The Frankest Shadows’, as 1,200 red roses sat suspended above the band.

Speaking with Music Feeds contributor Sally McMullen ahead of the band’s ‘MTV Unplugged’ show, Gang Of Youths bassist Max Dunn said the performance was a “pretty important moment” for the group.

“It’s a cool chance to do something a little different and stretch ourselves and give the fans a little more experience of the songs,” he said.

“That’s kind of the main thing. In terms of ‘MTV Unplugged’, it’s an important thing from back in the day and it’s cool that it’s happening and we get to be a part of it.”

The second edition of ‘MTV Unplugged Melbourne’ will feature a performance from singer-songwriter Amy Shark, who will record her set later today, Thursday, 26th July. A broadcast date is yet to be announced.

Gang Of Youths are scheduled to embark on a 20-date national tour this November. Catch all the tour dates right here.
