Here’s Where You Can Preview Flume’s New Album ‘Skin’ Almost A Week Early

Written by Tom Williams on May 20, 2016

Producer prodigy Flume is set to drop his super-hyped second album Skin next Friday, 27th May, but a juicy portion of the record is set to be shared almost a week early thanks to triple j.

This Sunday, 22nd May, triple j‘s Richard Kingsmill will share with the world an “in-depth preview” of Skin, complete with an interview with Streten in which he discusses the album’s ins and outs, and basically how the record came to be.

In the interview, Streten calls Skin “a difficult second record”. “I had moments where I couldn’t write; had moments where I was writing lots. It was just a massive learning process for me,” he says.

Discussing whether or not he feels like he had to ditch his old sounds after other artists started using them, Streten says, “I do, I have to move on but as annoying as it is – it’s also flattering and it also means I move forward rather than just get lazy and keep using the same sounds.”

Streten has already shared four songs from Skin ahead of its release (Never Be Like You, Smoke & Retribution, Say It and Wall Fuck), but the album contains a total of 16 tracks, packed with collaborations – we’re talking Vic Mensa, Raekwon, AlunaGeorge, Little Dragon, Beck – and some experimental new sounds.

Overall, Kingsmill reckons the vibe on the album is “a little bit wrong”, to which Streten says, “I just like that. I get bored of music really easily so I always try and make music that makes sense but then it’s just a little bit wrong.”

Triple j‘s “in-depth preview” of Skin will be broadcast from 6pm AEST this Sunday, 22nd May. Catch album cut Say It feat. Tove Lo in full, below, alongside Flume’s upcoming Aussie tour dates.
