Hilltop Hoods Announce $10,000 Grant For Emerging Artists

The ever charitable Australian hip hop outfit are at it again. After the release of their ARIA-winning album Drinking from the Sun, the group from Adelaide have set up yet another ‘trust fund’ for emerging hip hop artists. The 2013 Hilltop Hoods Initiative offers a solid $10,000 to help emerging artists reduce the fees of album production, release, and recording.

In addition to the cold hard cash, the winner will receive a Shure Microphone prize pack, which will surely improve the quality of their recordings. However, more importantly is the last element of the prize. Whoever takes home the 2013 Hilltop Hoods Initiative will also receive free legal advice from David Vodika and Media Arts Lawyers. Surprising as it may seem, in today’s current digital age legal advice is one of the most important aspects of the business, especially with the influx of samples used on hip hop tracks.

As explained on the APRA|AMCOS website, applicants of any age can enter; however, it is expected that entrants are in the early stages of their career; sorry Kerser. Godspeed to all applicants, you guys are the future of Aussie hip hop.
