Hilltop Hoods Emerging Artist Initiative Returns

Hilltop Hoods and APRA have announced the 2014 return of their HTH Initiative, which awards an emerging Australian hip-hop or soul artist a $10,00 grant to help them manufacture, release, and market their debut album, as well as legal advice from David Vodicka and Media Arts Lawyers.

The initiative was previously restricted to South Australian residents but since 2009 has been open to applicants from around the country. Last year’s grant was awarded to Gold Coast-based artist Chelsea Jane, with Subsketch and General Knowledge the subjects of previous years’ grants.

Australian hip-hop artists or groups of any age who have not yet released a commercial album and who are APRA members or have applied to become APRA members are eligible for entry. Applications close on Tuesday, 25th February, with the winner announced Friday, 28th March.

The judging panel includes names such as Koolism‘s Hau, who presents Triple J’s The Hip Hop Show, graffiti artist and indigenous community worker Nish, promoter and booking agent Ran-Dee, artist and Blank Clothing owner Raph, and hip-hop renaissance man, Tom Thum/Tommy Illfigg.
