Jay-Z‘s recent foray into the world of sports representation may have landed him in hot water. The 43-year-old hip-hop legend and sports mogul is reportedly under investigation over a lavish gift that Hov presented to New York Yankees star Robinson Cano—a watch valued at $34,000.
The Major League Baseball Players’ Association is reportedly undertaking an investigation to determine whether or not Jay-Z violated the union’s agent regulations, which state:
“No Player Agent or Applicant shall provide, cause to be provided or promise to provide, any money or any other thing of value to any player, or any person related to or associated with such player, the purpose of which is to induce or encourage such player to use or continue to use any person’s or firm’s services as a Player Agent, Representative, or Draft Advisor.”
Hov reportedly gave Cano the $34,000 timepiece from his own Shawn Carter Classic Fusion Hublot range last month as a 31st birthday gift, after Cano joined the rapper’s Roc Nation sports group back in April. According to MLBPA rules, any gift over $500 must be declared to the union in writing.
