After Ticketek yesterday teased an announcement for Kanye West’s next tour of Australia, two posters for a Yeezus tour have been posted in Melbourne which indicate tour dates for April and May 2014 will be announced very, very shortly.
First snapped by The Vine writer Sinead Stubbins, we can verify that the posters are pasted on construction site boards in Lulie St in Abbotsford, Melbourne.
The posters (below) show a figure, most likely Yeezy himself, being drawn towards a light with the stylized Metallica-eque Yeezus logo from the rapper’s US tour emblazoned across the top. The text at the bottom reads “Kanye West. Touring April – May 2014. On Sale Feb 21.”
Though the veracity of the information cannot be verified at this time, it’s unlikely this is a hoax. A similar situation occurred late last year when posters for Eminem’s Rapture festival were posted ahead of the tour’s official announcement.
If the Yeezus poster is accurate, it presumably means a tour announcement can be expected some time in the next few days, giving fans enough time to organise their ticket purchases before the on-sale date at the end of next week.
Yesterday, Ticketek shared an image of 5 silhouettes (now deleted) with the phrase “Countdown to the hottest performers – 5 mega announcements in 30 days” on their Facebook wall. We were able to identify the five acts as Kanye, Lady Gaga, Robbie Williams, Katy Perry and Justin Timberlake. Check out our comparison GIF below.
West hasn’t visited Australia since 2012, when he appeared on the east coast legs of the Big Day Out as well as headlining shows in Sydney and Melbourne. His current Yeezus tour has been his biggest to date, featuring rapping atop mountains, support slots from the likes of Kendrick Lamar and cameos from the son of God during Jesus Walks.
