Kelis has dropped her brand-new single Jerk Ribs today and announced that her sixth studio album, tentatively titled FOOD, will be released this September. The album is being produced by TV On The Radio‘s Dave Sitek and will be released on his Federal Prism label.
Jerk Ribs is a return to form from the Milkshake singer and a big leap from her last effort, 2010’s synthy Flesh Tone. The lead single packs a huge soul sound into a 4-minute package, complete with horn and string sections – take a listen below. FOOD seems to be a recurring theme for the R&B singer, a professionally trained chef who once considered leaving the music business to cook full-time.
Kelis announced the completion of her new album on Twitter last week, saying, “I’m really excited, my album is done. It sounds like love and summer balled up into one!” and posting a photo of herself in the studio.
