‘Kids Interview Bands’ Does Most Awkward Interview Ever With Tool’s Maynard James Keenan

Kids says the darendest things. Sometimes famous alternative musicians do worse.

Somehow, a set of circumstances happened in which Maynard James Keenan of Tool and his Puscifer bandmate Carina Round sat down with a young kid named Piper to be part of a Kids Interview Musicians interview.

The whole thing was pretty bloody awkward, as you might expect. Keenan made next to no effort to engage with the poor child (“What’s a good April Fool’s joke I can play on my sisters?” Keenan [unsmiling]: “Move.”).

Piper, however, expertly and awkwardly laughed at everything and continued to plough through her questions, including:

Piper: “Have you ever looked into the audience and seen something that makes you laugh?”

Keenan: “Wow… Yes.” …

Piper: “Can you name all the Spice Girls?”

Keenan: “Hamburger Spice. Barney Spice… Marky Mark?”

We gleaned maybe one actual fact about the musicians themselves – that Keenan enjoys the music of Donna Summer and Round is into White Snake and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Though we’re not sure that’s what young Piper meant when she asked about “pop music” they like.

That child deserves a gold star, or five, for getting through this.
