Lady Gaga & Mark Ronson Spar With The Black Keys’ Patrick Carney Over ‘Perfect Illusion’ Diss

A bizarre new celebrity beef has erupted between Lady Gaga and one half of The Black Keys (AKA Patrick Carney), and it’s tangling a bunch of other musicians up in its brutal net of shade.

The whole thing started when Carndawgs fied a round of diss pellets in the direction of Mother Monster’s “shitty” new song Perfect Illusion in a segment for HBO’s Vice News Tonight, his main gripe being with the song’s guitars.

“It’s like Eye of the Tiger, but not even nearly as good as that,” he slagged. “It sounds like Hulk Hogan is playing the fucking guitar.”

But Mark Ronson, who produced the track alongside Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker and producer Bloodpop, has rushed straight to Gaga’s aid, firing back at Carney in a tweet, reminding him that when he first heard the Diamond-certified chart-smasher Uptown Funk, he told Ronson “it wouldn’t work”. #doofus

Ronson’s counter-attack prompted Gaga to get in the ring as well. In a fiery tweet, the pop chanteuse called Carney “snarky”, and said she’d love to watch him in “a guitar death-match [with] Kevin Parker and Josh F*cking Homme”, who performed guitars on Perfect Illusion.

And it seems Carney is game for the challenge. He’s tweeted back a video of a spandex-clad WWE Superstar Hollywood Hulk Hogan pretending to strum along to iconic entrance theme A Real American, in a piss-taking nod to his previous sledge on Perfect Illusion‘s guitar work, along with another video of Carney himself having a wank around with a whammy bar and an effects pedal dubbed “Partrick Carney Guitar Champion”.

“This is my submission for the guitar competition,” he writes.

Josh Homme and Kevin Parker have yet to respond to Carney’s laying down of the six-string gauntlet, but we’ll keep you looped if that changes.

Meanwhile, Lady Gaga’s new Perfect Illusion-housing album Joanne is due out this Friday, 21st October.

Nothing like a good celebrity beef in the week leading up to ~beef up~ the publicity, eh?
