The Lineup For The New Festival By The Governors Ball Organisers Is Bonkers

Founders Entertainment, the organisers behind NYC’s Governors Ball Festival, have announced the lineup for The Meadows Music and Arts Festival, a new festival to also go down in New York.

Kanye West, The Weeknd and Chance The Rapper have all been announced as headliners of the festival which will take place in October.

The lineup’s greatness doesn’t stop there either. Grimes, The 1975, ZHU, Yeasayer and plenty more are all listed. There’s also a good Aussie representation with Empire Of The Sun, The Temper Trap and Miami Horror on the bill.

In what looks to be a The Meadows exclusive, Twin Shadow will perform Prince’s iconic album Purple Rain at the festival.

Kanye was due to perform at Governors Ball this year as the festival’s third and final headliner but his set was cancelled after the threat of wild weather saw the whole third day canned. He attempted to perform an impromptu show that night but it was shut down by police after thousands gathered outside the venue.

The Meadows is the second new major festival New York has received this year after Coachella organisers announced the introduction of Panorama Festival. That bill is topped by Kendrick Lamar, Arcade Fire and LCD Soundsystem.

Governors Ball launched a petition to stop Panorama going ahead in New York calling it, “an aggressive, greedy attempt by AEG to push a small independent company of born and bred New Yorkers out of business and out of the market.” It was ultimately unsuccessful.
