Following our revelation yesterday that Legion Festival would be moving from March 2016 to January 2017 and the subsequent statement from organisers, we caught up with self described festival ‘big gun’ John Sankey to get some more details.
Started with the noble intention of filling the gap left by Soundwave festival, Legion has grown into a behemoth, as organisers aim to raise over $3 million dollars via a pozible.com crowd funding campaign. With the cut off date for the campaign fast approaching on 25th January, Sankey and co made the call yesterday to move to festival to the 2017 Australia Day long weekend.
Launching a new pozible campaign in the coming weeks, giving them another 60 days to reach the pledge target, Legion have cited everything from issues with council to the slow processing of Soundwave refunds as reasons for the date change. And while their seven point press release was thoroughly informative, we decided we should get Sankey on the phone and go through it all with the man himself.
