Listen: New Beck Song ‘Cities’ In ‘Sound Shapes’ Trailer

Last week we heard news about three new Beck tracks that would be appearing in upcoming PS3 game Sound Shapes. One of the tracks Cities can now be heard in the trailer for the game, along with the graphics and game play.

Designer Steve Wilson talks about how he came up with the creations in the game, explaining that “If you ever listen to a Beck song, there’s just layers and layers of sounds,” he said. “So we had to pull all that apart and just basically close our eyes and imagine what the sounds could actually look like when embodied by a character.”

Although fans have been waiting for a new Beck album for some time, this is not the first we’ve heard from the genre jumping troubadour. Lately we’ve been treated with a variety of tunes, including Looking for a Sign, written for the film Jeff Who Lives at Home.

A new single and B-side titled I Just Started Hating Some People Today and Blue Randy were recorded with Jack White at his Third Man Records Studio. That was quickly followed by a collaboration with Childish Gambino, which features on Gambino’s new mixtape Royalty.

Beck will be on this year’s Harvest Festival 2012 lineup in November.
