Listen: New Primus Song ‘Tragedy’s A’Comin’

Primus have released a new song from their much anticipated new album Green Naugahyde. Their last album was 1999’s Antipop, and first to feature drummer Jay Lane.

The release of Green Naugahyde has been subject to many delays. The band had originally given the album a May 2011 release, but then later stated that they were “shooting for June”, but had chosen to push it back to July to avoid conflict with the holiday season. Finally, it was announced the date was settled for September.

The track was released on Spin yesterday, and features that signature Primus sound, with bouncing basslines and quirky guitar tones that we all know and associate with them.

But there’s a dark edge to the lyrics of this tune, as frontman/bassist Les Claypool says:

“Lyrically, this is me focusing on eventual demise or at least the notion that big rain is coming and at some point I’m going to get pretty fucking wet,” Says Claypool. “Who says lemmings can’t dance as they go over the cliff?”
