Listen To A Teaser Of Justin Vernon’s New Project

It’s now been about two years since Bon Iver’s frontman Justin Vernon let slip his collaboration with Minneapolis-based rapper Astronautalis after they spent a weekend together in the studio, and now a short trailer of the mystery project, carrying the name De Oro, has emerged.

The fruits of the collaboration were teased via a video posted on label Totally Gross National Product’s website and features Vernon’s unmistakable ethereal tones soundtracking some cryptic footage. The video also reveals what appears to be a project logo.

Speaking about the project in 2012, Astronautalis told City Pages they had sketched out about eight pieces of music together along with production and mixing mastermind Ryan Olson, who co-wrote US synthpop band Poliça‘s first album and founded the Gayngs supergroup, which also features Vernon.

“It’s such a far stretch for a lot of us musically,” said Astronautalis at the time. “I think everyone should abandon their expectations of what it’s going to be, because it’s probably going to be very far off.” The project has been rumoured to be called Jason Feathers but officially confirmed details have not yet been announced.

Meanwhile, UK electro soul singer-songwriter and producer James Blake has revealed he is writing music with the Bon Iver frontman while also intermittently teaming up with fellow Justin Vernon collaborator Kanye West in preparation for his third studio album.
