Listen To An Unreleased Kurt Cobain Demo From The ‘Montage Of Heck’ Documentary

Creators of the guaranteed tearjerker of a film Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck, have delivered on their promise that the film will include previously unheard originals from the late Nirvana frontman, as can be seen in this new clip.

The short film snippet (below) is just 38-seconds long and features audio of Cobain playing an an acoustic guitar whilst crooning a haunting and sombre melody. The film’s director Brett Morgen told Rolling Stone the song is a previously unheard Cobain original that he discovered in the Nirvana frontman’s storage facility in 2013.

Montage of Heck was created with the support of Kurt Cobain’s family, and is executive produced by his and Courtney Love’s daughter Frances Bean Cobain. It will premiere in Australia on May 7th, with a limited theatrical release.

The film’s soundtrack, a release date for which is yet to be announced, is supposed to feature a “mind blowing 12 minute acoustic Cobain unheard track”.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, Frances Bean described the film as being the “closest thing to having Kurt tell his own story in his own words – by his own aesthetic, his own perception of the world” and said “it paints a portrait of a man attempting to cope with being a human.”

Interestingly, 22-year-old Frances Bean told the publication, “I don’t really like Nirvana that much” and explained that “the grunge scene is not what I’m interested in”. Her tastes lie more in the arena of Mercury Rev, Oasis and Brian Jonestown Massacre, but describes the Nevermind track Territorial Pissings as “a fucking great song”.

Frances Bean Cobain also spoke about the world’s obsession with her late father. “Our culture is obsessed with dead musicians. We love to put them on a pedestal. If Kurt had just been another guy who abandoned his family in the most awful way possible . . . But he wasn’t,” she said.

“He inspired people to put him on a pedestal, to become St. Kurt. He became even bigger after he died than he was when he was alive. You don’t think it could have gotten any bigger. But it did.”
