Childish Gambino has returned with a brand-new single called Centipede. That’s right, not a remix, or a guest verse, or a mixtape, a straight-up original piece of material.
Don’t let the strange overdrawn introduction put you off – Gambeezy isn’t returning with some avant garde concept. At the 50 second mark, the track kicks in and shit gets real. Pushing aside his penchant for sampling indie acts such as Grizzly Bear, Gambino sets the foundation of Centipede on a straight up and down hip hop beat.
The lyrics are pushed to the foreground and – surprise, surprise – the majority of the content is focused on how much he’s killing it, interjected with mentions to his insecurities. He truly has this shit on lock.
Donald Glover has been keeping a low profile lately, making this new offering all the more special. There’s no further information on when we can get something – anything – else from the rapper, but Centipede will have you fiending it.
Centipede instantly justifies Glover’s decision to step back from his other projects in favour of Gambino’s adventures – Troy Barnes could never produce this sort of cool.
