Lorde To Perform At ARIA Awards

In the tradition of Russell Crowe, Crowded House and Kimbra, we’ve officially decided to claim New Zealand teen wonder Lorde as an Aussie, with the 17-year-old just announced to play the ARIA Awards ceremony on Sunday, 1st December.

The singer-songwriter will be performing Team, her latest single from her debut album Pure Heroine, in her first Australian TV performance. Lorde, real name Ella Yelich-O’Connor, has had the kind of year most emerging musos can only dream about, with recent achievements including playing an unheard of 25 minute set on Letterman and being named TIME magazine’s most influential teen of 2013.

ARIA CEO Dan Rosen announced the news today, saying, “Lorde is an extremely talented artist and performer and one of the biggest artists in the world right now, so we are thrilled to be able to welcome her to this year’s ARIA Awards as a special guest performer.”

Lorde’s Royals remains at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts, its ninth consecutive week at #1. Tickets to the 2013 ARIA Awards, which takes place at The Star, Sydney, are completely sold out, but fans are encouraged to turn up to the David Jones Black Carpet from 3.00pm, or catch the festivities on GO! from 7.30pm.
