MAKING WAVES HIP HOP: A compilation of Australian Indigenous Hip Hop

Making Waves Hip Hop is music with meaning. This collection of tracks provides a snapshot into contemporary black Australia through the eyes of some of this country’s best hip hop artists who are determined to make a difference and take a stance, using the power of the lyric and the hook of a beat.

Making Waves Hip Hop kicks off with The Last Kinection who spent part of 2008 on the road with The Herd; pays respect to Munkimuk, a pioneer of the Indigenous Hip Hop Music scene; flows through to JB Seed recipient, Impossible Odds and showcases the MC stylings of both Wire MC and Brotha Black. The album also features Jimblah, who won the 2007 Hilltop Hoods Initiative and demonstrates why both Street Warriors and Tijimba and the Yung Warriors are Deadly Award nominees. Freestyler, Knowledge Bones slams out his impressive rapping style; Eskatology lyrically delivers his personal journey; The Dreamtime Brothaz are in for their love of making beats with Mau Power presenting a solo track as well as one with his group, ‘One Blood Image’. This compilation is not without it’s share of guest appearances, Jimblah teams up with A-Love for ‘Skill Survey’, Radical Son features on The Last Kinection’s track, ‘I Can’ and Sista Native lends vocals to Wire MC’s ‘Face My Music’.

Making Waves Hip Hop is the follow up album release to ‘Making Waves singer songwriters’ from Gadigal Music/ABC Music and continues the story in this new chapter for the Australian Indigenous music industry. Featuring 19 tracks from 12 artists hailing from Brisbane to Armidale, Melbourne to Newcastle Sydney to Adelaide and Perth to the Torres Strait Islands, Making Waves Hip Hop is music that matters. Each track is threaded with stories of personal journeys, social comment, respect for culture and self belief, as a collective, this compilation is set to empower the young Indigenous, inform the non Indigenous and inspire anyone who hit’s ‘play’.
