Mariah Carey Struggling Vocally Ahead Of Australian Tour

Mariah Carey has been credited with hitting notes so high that only dogs can truly hear them. Whether that’s true or just an urban myth, neither man nor beast would have wanted any part of her recent performance in Japan, which saw the pop diva forget lyrics and miss notes like a drunk punter at Sunday night karaoke.

Fan footage has surfaced from the opening show for Carey’s Elusive Chanteuse world tour, which is due to touch down in Australia in less than a month. Kicking the tour off at the Makuhari Messe Arena in Tokyo, Japan, one snippet see Carey struggling mightily to find the high end of her vocal range, with her voice cracking on ’90s single Vision Of Love.

A longer clip captures Carey’s shaky vocals throughout Always Be My Baby, making us mere mortals feel a lot better about our amateur singing skills. Yet another vid sees Carey butcher We Belong Together by forgetting the lyrics completely, though a mic stand malfunction may have been responsible for that fault.

With Carey due out in Australia in November this footage will not be filling fans with confidence — arena diva die-hards may remember the disappointment of Whitney Houston’s hit and miss shows on her 2010 Australian tour. Let’s just hope Carey will have cured whatever is currently ailing her by the time she arrives Down Under.
