English rocker Mark Gardener is headed our way this week to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of his former band Ride’s second record Going Blank Again. Ride were an early 90s British alternative rock outfit that have been credited as paving the way for bands such as Blur and Smashing Pumpkins, although they themselves never reached the lofting heights of commercial success enjoyed by the aforementioned acts.
Gardener and his band will bring the music of Ride back to the live setting with the help of US psych rock band Sky Parade, who will back Gardener and boast ex Brian Jonestown Massacre member Tommy Dietrick among their midst. As for local representation, that will come in the form of Underground Lover who, like Ride, played an important role in alternative rock during the 90s.
So if you’re in the mood for a little 90’s nostalgia or looking to learn more about the history of 90’s alternative rock, grab a ticket and see for yourself the sounds that helped define a generation.
