Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium Will Legit Be Renamed ‘Marvel Stadium’

It’s official: Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium is set to be renamed ‘Marvel Stadium’, after the Walt Disney Company locked in an eight-year deal with the venue.

The deal will see the stadium get its new name on 1st September, as well as new rebranding and a new Marvel shop.

Marvel, which is behind some of the world’s biggest superhero franchises (including the likes of The Avengers and Captain America), is something of a surprise choice, and has left some locals a little confused.

Melbourne Stadiums Limited Chief Executive Michael Green said the deal with Marvel will extend beyond the new name, with the venue set to deliver “an immersive entertainment experience by bringing to life marvel characters and content throughout Marvel Stadium”.

The stadium, which Etihad Airways bought the naming rights for in 2009, has also previously been known as Telstra Dome and Colonial Stadium.

Etihad Stadium Marvel Stadium is set to host a performance from Taylor Swift this October.
