Melbourne Festival 2014 Music Lineup Announced

The music program for the 2014 Melbourne Festival has been announced, bringing Melbournites one of the most unique lineups in the festival’s history. From a collaboration between a techno icon and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, to a 20-time Grammy winner, it’s jam-packed and diverse.

One of the figures responsible for the evolution of techno, Jeff Mills will open the festival in Hamer Hall with an exclusive performance of Light from the Outside World. The event’s first Southern Hemisphere performance will see him joining the 60-piece MSO with his decks and drum machine.

Meanwhile, 20-time Grammy Award-winning guitarist Pat Metheny will be bringing a career spanning almost 40 years to the Melbourne Festival. Metheny will be returning to Australian shores for the first time in two decades with his most accomplished project yet, Pat Metheny Unity Group.

After an incredible performance during ATP’s Release The Bats event, a collection of Australian guitarist and songwriter Rowland S Howard‘s collaborators, including Mick Harvey and Adalita, will once again honour his legendary legacy on what would have been the guitarist’s 55th birthday.

And following rave reviews during Vivid Live this year, Since I Left You celebrates The Avalanches‘ seminal album, hailed as the biggest Australian recording of its decade with a must-see tribute spearheaded by Aussie producer and multi-instrumentalist Jonti, joined by a 17-piece orchestra.

“With this year’s program, we’ve aimed to present the leading figures in as broad a range of musical styles as possible,” said Director of Contemporary Music Declan Forde. Tickets start from $25 and hit sale 9am Tuesday, 29th July. Head to the Melbourne Festival Website for more information.
