Be Mesmerised By Gang Of Youths’ Incredible ‘MTV Unplugged’ Performance Of ‘Still Unbeaten Life’

Written by Emmy Mack on September 14, 2018

Gang Of Youths have blessed us with another stunning video from their landmark performance at the first ever MTV Unplugged Melbourne session.

The spellbinding live rendition of ‘Still Unbeaten Life’ from their 2016 album Let Me Be Clear will leave you absolutely mesmerised as it burns slowly to a surging climax with the help of a string section, a horn section and of course frontman Dave Le’aupepe’s powerhouse vocals.

The performance was filmed on 25th July at the Cobblestone Pavilion in Melbourne’s Meat Market, as 1,200 red roses sat suspended above the band.

It marks the latest chapter in an absolutely astronomical year for the band, which kicked off with them scoring three tracks in the Top 10 of triple j’s Hottest 100, and more recently saw them sell out show after show for their upcoming Say Yes To Life Tour.

Gang Of Youths have also been confirmed to headline this year’s NRL Grand Final pre-game show, and have announced their own festival in Brisbane for November which they’ll perform at after returning home from the US.

Speaking with Music Feeds contributor Sally McMullen ahead of the band’s MTV Unplugged show, GOY bassist Max Dunn said the performance was a “pretty important moment” for the group.

“It’s a cool chance to do something a little different and stretch ourselves and give the fans a little more experience of the songs,” he said.

“That’s kind of the main thing. In terms of MTV Unplugged, it’s an important thing from back in the day and it’s cool that it’s happening and we get to be a part of it.”

For the uninitiated, Unplugged debuted in 1989, and has hosted iconic performances from the likes of Nirvana, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Adele, Oasis, The Cure and Florence + The Machine.

Watch the pro-shot footage of Gangs performing ‘Still Unbeaten Life’ on the Unplugged stage below, or see the previously released video of them performing ‘Let Me Down Easy’ right here.

The full ‘MTV Unplugged’ show audio is expected to eventually be released on streaming services.
