Mum @ Worldbar, Friday 20th August

Written by John Ritchie on August 16, 2010

Its almost the end of winter so MUM has got some gorgeous acts that are warmer than your favourite cardy. SISTER JANE are in to spin things back to the 60s. ONLY THE SEA SLUGS are not hip hop despite what they’re MySpace page declare, its up to you to put these slugs in a pigeon hole if you can. VIOLENT PULP are a cute girl duo that fit in nicely with SISTER JANE’s sound. THE PRIORY DOLLS from Melbourne have been hyped by Ricky Maymi from The Brian Jonestown Massacre before fellow Melbournians, August residents MOTHER & FATHER kick it out loudly.

Up 4 flights of stairs, past The Tea Room and into The Bordello MONKS OF MELLONWAH have just dropped a new EP STARS ARE OUT and will be previewing some tracks. Also upstairs are ORCA! STRAIGHT AHEAD! who describe themselves as ‘a super fun happy time dance band’ and you cant disagree with that call. Its great to hear someone make good music but not take things too seriously while they do it. Then GOD REST THE GOOD DOCTOR will speed up the tempo with their post punk and leave you feeling like there was something more in your last drink.

In the DJ booth Dave from DAPPLED CITIES will be straight in after their gig supporting MIDNIGHT JUGGERNAUTS and resident nerd WALKIE TALKIE is back from TOKYO. Plus catch Jack Shit, Alvin, Animal Chin, Swim Team DJs, Wet Lungs, FiFiDoesDiDi, Kapow,10th Avenue & 16 Tacos complete a DJ lineup that is twice as big and twice as pretty as anywhere else in Sydney.

Remember its $8 cocktails between 7pm and 9pm, and if you’re a student then you get hooked up with $4.50 Vodkas or VBs and $12 Teapots.
