Mumford & Sons General Store & Saloon Coming To Sydney

The latest out-of-the-box idea to come from Mumford & Sons has got to be the coolest we’ve seen yet from the progressive thinking band. In association with Under New Management and Time Out, the band will be opening their very own General Store and Saloon in the heart of Sydney.

Update 12/09:

The location has been revealed to be 118 Oxford St, Darlinghurst, Sydney.

There are plenty of events and festivities planned to keep Sydney’s most dapper ladies and gents occupied, including: the Mumford & Sons General Store Café, M&S Saloon Whisky Flights, The Tournament (Monopoly and Scrabble connoisseurs beware), Live Art from Sydney’s Secret Walls collective and live screenings of the Big Easy Express film.

A series of live acoustic nights will kick off on September 19 when the M&S General Store welcomes ex-The Middle East member, R.L. Jones for an intimate performance. There will also be a Fan Launch Party on the eve of ‘Babel’s release, providing Australian fans who pre-ordered the album the opportunity to take the album home before anyone else in the world.

Christened The Mumford & Sons General Store & Saloon, the store will act as a place for people to put their feet up and listen to the groovy tunage from the band’s forthcoming release Babel. You will also be able to enjoy a warm brew thanks to Grinders coffee.

By night, the saloon part of things will kick in. The store will turn into a watering hole for locals, with the whisky flowing on behalf of ARDBEG Whisky. Punters can also check out bits and pieces of their new flick Big Easy Express, and will be spoiled by live performances from local bands picked out by M&S themselves.

The Mumford & Sons General Store will be open to the public daily at 1.00am from Friday 14th September until Friday 28th September. Babel will be officially released smack bang in the middle of those days, with September 21 locked in for release.

The store’s location will be announced closer to the opening night.

In the following weeks, the band will be heading Down Under for a run of shows throughout October in support of the album.
